Choose lettering for a typed name
Microsoft describes Brush Script MT as an informal, connected brush-style script and lists it as available within Office applications. If it is available in your Word font menu, compare your complete name in it. Keep a plain-text name nearby when the decorative version makes a letter ambiguous.
Use an image for your own handwriting
Microsoft documents writing a signature on paper, scanning it, cropping the picture and inserting it with Insert > Pictures. That preserves the appearance of your actual mark. A script font applies the same designed letterforms to many users and does not reproduce your personal handwriting.
Separate appearance from authentication
Microsoft’s Office digital-signature documentation describes a certificate-based workflow. Changing a typed name to a script font does not perform that process. Follow the recipient’s requested signing method rather than treating a visual resemblance as evidence of identity.
Keep the signature block readable
Use the decorative lettering sparingly, with contact details in a simpler family. Compare the name at the size it will actually occupy in the document. The Word default-font guide covers document defaults; changing an entire template is unnecessary when only one name needs a different treatment.
Your questions, answered.
What is a signature font in Word?
It usually means a script-style typeface used for a typed name, rather than a special signing feature.
Can I insert my actual handwritten signature?
Yes. Microsoft documents inserting a saved signature image through Insert > Pictures.
