University Roman has a documented hand-lettering reference
The ITC publisher account credits Mike Daines and Esselte Letraset, identifies a Speedball hand-lettering basis, and dates design at the Letraset Type Studio to 1983. It describes narrow capitals with unusually high crossbars. That date concerns the design account; the separate online-store debut is not the beginning of the lettering style.
Keep the full name University Roman in your project notes. The word University alone does not establish that a school commissioned it or approved it for use in its identity.
Compare the capitals in a real display line
Set an original title containing several capitals and a mixed-case subtitle. Compare Regular, Italic and Bold in the original resource rather than asking an application to fabricate a missing cut. Inspect the high crossbars within the whole word, then compare the negative space around adjacent narrow letters.
A display treatment can carry a focused heading while a separate reading face carries dates or explanatory text. Keep those roles visible when reducing the design to the size of an invitation or packaging label. The local Lora and Cormorant Garamond specimens are independent comparisons, not University Roman files.
For a campus brief, use the institution’s actual system
A real university project needs its own typography guidance. Compare the documented roles in the Maryland guide or Louisville guide to see why institutional, athletics and campaign resources must be identified separately. Their font names should not be generalized into one universal university alphabet.
For a separate text-only caption, the free stylish lettering generator supplies Unicode character substitutions. It does not install University Roman, create its original high-crossbar capitals or supply an institution’s official wordmark.
Your questions, answered.
Is University Roman a standard font for all universities?
No. It is a named typeface. Each institution’s typography system is a separate identity decision.
Does the 1983 account date the current digital files?
The publisher dates design work at Letraset. It should not be treated as a release date for every later digital package.
