Dispatch Font

Cyrus Highsmith created Dispatch by combining references from typescript, engineering blueprints and shipping labels into an industrial slab serif. Occupant Fonts explains that the later Dispatch 2 revisited the series with a broader range and italics, with Cem Eskinazi assisting the re-release.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

The revised family expands weights, widths and language support and offers variable resources. Dispatch Mono is a separately identified monospaced branch. A related source or shared family name does not make a proportional drawing and a fixed-width drawing interchangeable.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

Compare a strong shipping-label heading with a paragraph and a code-like numeric row. Choose the intended width and spacing behavior before fitting the design. For a related historical construction, compare the Serifa guide; its drawing and origin remain independent of Dispatch.
