Slab Serif Fonts

Slab serifs have substantial serif structures, but they range from quieter text designs to emphatic display lettering. The broad label does not determine whether the family has rounded brackets, geometric proportions or a historical revival source.

The collection is a starting point for comparing letterforms. It does not promise that a font used for one project, brand or period is identical to any of these families.

Rokkitt draws on geometric slab traditions and Besley on Clarendon, while Arvo offers another slab direction. Compare the serif joins and letter widths with the same words to see differences hidden by the category name.

Try a heading with numerals and a short paragraph. Inspect heavy counters and thin details at the actual size. Use the available regular and italic styles instead of forcing artificial weight or slant.

Use the same wording and approximate size in each specimen. The size and tracking controls help you inspect the design; the PNG is a visual reference rather than a complete page layout.

Open a family’s official font page from its specimen when you want the font files. The selected source distributions include open licenses; review the license included with the specific files you obtain, especially if you plan to modify or redistribute them.
