The actual title-card team names Compacta
Materia’s Borderlands 4 production account documents its collaboration with Gearbox on character title cards, end-credit illustrations and intro-cinematic type. Art director Tobias Mannewitz identifies yellow lettering and Compacta as frequent choices for returning fan-favorite characters, explaining that the choices balance franchise familiarity and character personality.
The team describes combining supplied posed 3D character renders with painted backgrounds, typography and framing. This is direct evidence for a particular title-card workflow, not a claim that Compacta supplies every menu, logo or manufacturer identity across all Borderlands games. Use the Compacta family guide for the original typeface resource.
Make a character name work beside the pose
For an original introduction card, place the character’s silhouette first and reserve a clear area for the name. Test the longest name in the group before finalizing the template. A tightly condensed face can save width, but check that the letter interiors remain visible against painted detail. Keep the pose and the wording from competing for the same high-contrast area.
Choose a consistent role for color across the set. If returning characters share a treatment, make that a deliberate rule instead of applying a different effect to every card. Oswald is an independent condensed comparison, not Compacta or a replacement game asset.
Prepare the card for its brief time on screen
Review the title card at the intended video size and viewing duration. Make the principal name readable before adding a nickname or comic subtitle. If the background is moving, judge the least favorable frame rather than a conveniently uncluttered still. Preserve the completed title as image or motion artwork; an ordinary text field cannot reproduce the painted framing.
For a separate player caption, our copyable game-profile text styles offer Unicode substitutions. They do not install a Borderlands font, alter the game interface or create the artists’ character-card artwork.
Your questions, answered.
What font do the Borderlands 4 title-card artists identify?
Materia art director Tobias Mannewitz specifically names Compacta in explaining familiar title treatments for returning characters. The account does not identify one font for every game graphic.
Is a character title card the same as the Borderlands logo?
No. Keep character cards, the main wordmark and interface text as separate references. The documented Compacta use here concerns the title-card production account.
