THE TYPE NOTEBOOK

Poster, Flyer & Banner Fonts

Compare real typefaces, then choose the details that fit your words.

A poster or banner needs a hierarchy that can be understood quickly: the main message, supporting detail and a clear next step. A strong heading font alone does not supply that hierarchy, and no single family fits every event or viewing distance. Use the editable specimens to compare your own text, then follow the family links for background, styles and official downloads.

01

What this style means

A poster or banner needs a hierarchy that can be understood quickly: the main message, supporting detail and a clear next step. A strong heading font alone does not supply that hierarchy, and no single family fits every event or viewing distance.

The collection is a starting point for comparing letterforms. It does not promise that a font used for one project, brand or period is identical to any of these families.

02

Compare the families and their references

Anton and Bebas Neue compare strong sans-serif display proportions, while Abril Fatface provides a contrasting serif direction. These project histories and letterforms differ; their shared role in this selection is making a short message prominent.

Explore the full profiles for Anton, Bebas Neue, Abril Fatface. Each includes its own project description and source license, so you can judge the actual design rather than the category name alone.

03

Try it in a real layout

Enter the full event title and the longest supporting line. Compare the layout at the smallest size in which it will be shared. Keep dates, location and access information in a quieter companion instead of making every line equally emphatic.

Use the same wording and approximate size in each specimen. The size and tracking controls help you inspect the design; the PNG is a visual reference rather than a complete page layout.

04

Downloads, copying and next steps

Open a family’s official font page from its specimen when you want the font files. The selected source distributions include open licenses; review the license included with the specific files you obtain, especially if you plan to modify or redistribute them.

Copying ordinary letters does not carry these typefaces to a different app. Use a font-aware design tool or export an image when the appearance matters. For the character-substitution alternative, read Unicode text versus real fonts.

05

Proof a flyer as a hand-held printed object

For a fictional workshop flyer, give the event name one display role and reserve a quieter style for the date, address and booking details. Print a draft at the actual handout dimensions rather than judging only a large screen view. Check the smallest details and leave enough space around a web address or contact line. UK government clear-print guidance recommends a minimum 12-point document size, considering 14 point for audiences with sight impairments; that is contextual print guidance, not a universal headline setting. If the content will not fit comfortably, shorten it before reducing all the practical information. For a digital version, keep the essential event details available as text alongside an image.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Can I use a display font for all the poster text?

You can, but compare the smaller information separately. A short emphatic title and a readable detail line have different demands.

Are these live previews free to use?

Yes. You can edit and compare the specimens here without payment. Use each official source link to download the font and read the included license.

Why do copied words look different in another app?

The previews use actual fonts loaded on this page. Ordinary clipboard text carries the characters, not a requirement for another app to render the same font.
