You Blockhead Font: Comicraft Interlocks and Tabular Numbers

Explore the sources, compare the examples and choose the right approach.

Comicraft’s You Blockhead combines interlocking letter pairs with alternate uppercase forms. Its documented update history adds a useful technical distinction: recent files include tabular numerals, so a title proof and a changing-score proof should test different features.

01

Identify the retail family and its documented updates

The Comicraft product page documents more than 100 interlocking pairs. Its December 2022 update improved spacing and added automatic alternates and Crossbar I Technology; version 2.100 in July 2024 added tabular numbers and changed Open resource menu grouping. Check the version supplied with your own files before expecting those behaviors. Bangers is an independent editable comparison here, not an original You Blockhead preview. A retail family name should also remain distinct from a commissioned derivative.

02

Compare interlocks in an original title

Set “FORT NIGHT” as a short fictional board-game title and preserve a default proof. Compare the available connecting-ligature controls in an application that supports the actual font’s features. Keep size and tracking fixed while examining how adjacent forms share space. Test an alternate uppercase choice only after choosing the combination behavior, then inspect the complete title at its intended printed width. Do not assume tighter tracking creates the same interlocks; compare the supplied glyph behavior before adjusting the surrounding spacing.

03

Test a changing score with the recent numeral resource

Create three identical score panels reading “111,” “888” and “108.” Compare their alignment in the recent font with the documented tabular-numeral option applied where your application exposes it. Keep the text box and alignment fixed rather than dragging each score into place. Check punctuation, separators and any unit label separately; equal digit widths do not promise equal widths for every character. Save a before-and-after proof and the feature setting so another editor can reproduce the panel when its value changes.

04

Keep custom game lettering separate from your own project

The creator’s studio portfolio documents You Blockhead’s use in Clash of Clans and a later custom lettering commission. That history does not mean a retail installation supplies every game-specific form. For the original exercise, place the title above the score panels and one plain instruction line. Compare the finished card in print and at a small digital size, checking title recognition and numeral stability independently. Record the exact font version and resource names, and consult the publisher for files and terms appropriate to the planned output.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Why might an older copy lack the tabular-number behavior?

Comicraft’s version history dates the addition to version 2.100 in July 2024. Check the actual installed edition rather than assuming every historical copy has the current features.

Does buying You Blockhead supply every Clash Royale letter?

No such equivalence is established. The retail source family and later custom game lettering have distinct scope; consult the separate game-history guide for that relationship.
