Make Font Bigger on a Windows Computer: Text Size, Scale and Magnifier

Explore the sources, compare the examples and choose the right approach.

Windows offers different controls for text size, whole-interface scale and magnification. Choose the control that matches what is too small rather than replacing a typeface unnecessarily.

01

Change text size on Windows 11

Microsoft documents Start > Settings > Accessibility > Text size. Move the slider, inspect the sample and choose Apply. This is a reading-size preference rather than the font menu used to format a Word document.

02

Use scale for a larger interface

If images and application controls also need to grow, Microsoft points to Display and its Scale options. Text size and scale have different scopes. Choose the smallest change that makes the actual work comfortable rather than assuming every element needs the same adjustment.

03

Magnify a particular area

Microsoft documents Windows+Plus to turn on Magnifier and zoom in, Windows+Minus to zoom out and Windows+Esc to exit. Use it when a closer view of part of the screen is the task. It is different from changing the document’s saved point size.

04

Distinguish Windows versions

Microsoft’s Windows 10 instructions use Ease of Access > Display instead of the Windows 11 route. Follow the section matching the installed version. If only one authoring app’s text is small, keep its document-formatting controls separate from the operating system’s viewing preferences.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Does Text size replace the system typeface?

No. The documented control changes text scale rather than selecting a new family.

Which option makes images larger too?

Microsoft directs users to Display > Scale for a broader interface enlargement.
