Plan lettering around a visible phone-sized area
The Clip Studio Paint webtoon manual documents an on-screen-area frame representing a smartphone view and a separate export workflow that splits long canvases into images. These are useful production controls for checking lettering in context; they do not prescribe one font. In Clip Studio Paint, View > Show on-screen area (webtoon) displays the frame, while its on-screen-area settings control the aspect ratio. Keep the simulated reading area separate from the full canvas.
Review complete dialogue exchanges rather than isolated bubbles
Place two consecutive dialogue turns and their speakers in the same proof. Check the sequence in which the reader encounters the balloons while scrolling, along with the text inside them. Rewrite an overlong line before shrinking every balloon to accommodate it. Give captions and sound effects distinct roles without letting them interrupt the reading order. Compare the longest ordinary dialogue passage, not only a short exclamation that makes almost any display face appear usable.
Compare the exported strip with your editable master
Export a representative section containing both dense dialogue and a scene transition, then inspect the complete sequence at its intended reading width. Check letter spacing, balloon margins and words near image splits. Keep editable text in the master so correcting a name does not require rebuilding flattened artwork. Patrick Hand and Source Sans 3 are independent handwritten and plain reading comparisons, not a platform-mandated font. The homepage generator for copyable character styles changes Unicode text; it does not letter balloons, export panels or preserve a font after text becomes part of an image.
Your questions, answered.
Does WEBTOON require one universal font?
The cited production manual provides viewing and export tools, not a universal lettering font. Choose a properly licensed family that works for the actual text and language.
Why can readable canvas text become too small after export?
The editing view and final reading width can differ. Inspect a representative exported sequence at the intended size rather than relying on an enlarged working view.
