Trashhand: background and attribution
Luce Avérous identifies TrashHand as a free font, including for commercial use. The creator distinguishes it from Verveine, the more complete commercial family available through Dalton Maag. The older TrashHand release should therefore be described on its own terms rather than inheriting every later family feature.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The creator specifically directs requests for more glyphs or web and app licensing to Verveine. That distinction matters when preparing multilingual or embedded text. A freeware download is not evidence that every missing character or deployment format is supported.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try an informal annotation and a short poster caption. Check punctuation and accented names early, before committing the full design. If the required character is missing, choose a documented resource rather than silently substituting another font mid-word.
For independent comparisons, try Kalam and Patrick Hand. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
