THE TYPE NOTEBOOK

Handwriting Fonts

Compare real typefaces, then choose the details that fit your words.

Handwriting fonts turn a drawn writing style into repeatable type. They can be neat, irregular, connected or separate, and a repeated typed alphabet may look different from a person writing a full page by hand. Use the editable specimens to compare your own text, then follow the family links for background, styles and official downloads.

01

What this style means

Handwriting fonts turn a drawn writing style into repeatable type. They can be neat, irregular, connected or separate, and a repeated typed alphabet may look different from a person writing a full page by hand.

The collection is a starting point for comparing letterforms. It does not promise that a font used for one project, brand or period is identical to any of these families.

02

Compare the families and their references

Gochi Hand interprets a teenager’s writing, Bad Script develops its designer’s handwriting through tablet drawing, and Patrick Hand supplies another informal direction. Their individual origins matter more than a generic handwritten label.

Explore the full profiles for Patrick Hand, Gochi Hand, Bad Script. Each includes its own project description and source license, so you can judge the actual design rather than the category name alone.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a complete note with repeated letters and punctuation. Keep lines short enough to follow comfortably. Do not use a handwriting font as proof of a person’s authorship or as a substitute for their consent.

Use the same wording and approximate size in each specimen. The size and tracking controls help you inspect the design; the PNG is a visual reference rather than a complete page layout.

04

Downloads, copying and next steps

Open a family’s official font page from its specimen when you want the font files. The selected source distributions include open licenses; review the license included with the specific files you obtain, especially if you plan to modify or redistribute them.

Copying ordinary letters does not carry these typefaces to a different app. Use a font-aware design tool or export an image when the appearance matters. For the character-substitution alternative, read Unicode text versus real fonts.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Will repeated letters always look different?

Not necessarily. Some fonts include alternates, but their availability and activation depend on the file and app. Inspect the actual repeated word in your final output.

Are these live previews free to use?

Yes. You can edit and compare the specimens here without payment. Use each official source link to download the font and read the included license.

Why do copied words look different in another app?

The previews use actual fonts loaded on this page. Ordinary clipboard text carries the characters, not a requirement for another app to render the same font.
