Tinos: background and attribution
Steve Matteson designed Tinos as a serif family metrically compatible with Times New Roman, according to its CTAN package account. The maintained package supplies LaTeX support alongside font resources. The package version date records a distribution release rather than establishing the original design date.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Metric compatibility concerns layout measurements and does not mean identical letter outlines. The CTAN record lists Apache and LaTeX Project Public License components; consult the package’s included notices for the separate font and support resources.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a paragraph with italic emphasis, a footnote and numerals in the target document. Source Serif 4 and Lora offer independent text-serif alternatives with their own metrics. Do not infer layout compatibility from their broad serif category.
For independent comparisons, try Source Serif 4 and Lora. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.

Use CTAN package maintainers to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Tinos font software.
The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
Your questions, answered.

Use the linked CTAN package maintainers family specimen. The editable comparisons on this page are separately named alternatives.
Does this page supply a Tinos font download?
No. Follow the publisher source to investigate the original resources and their terms.
Are the alternative fonts exact replacements?
No. Compare letterforms, spacing, script coverage and layout before choosing an independent design.
