The actual type designer describes Rare’s commission
In Saja Typeworks’ original 2016 project account, Aaron Bell describes adapting Rare’s licensed Windlass resource: extending its character set, revising letters and spacing, and adding OpenType collision handling. This documents a game-specific project, rather than proving that a public package includes the commissioned changes. For the original family background, see the Windlass guide.
Prepare a ship-name proof with the actual language
For your own nautical display, start with the full ship or crew name and its real accents. Inspect the marks above letters as part of the complete word, especially near a capital or a tall neighboring character. Keep a second line for the location or voyage date rather than shrinking the main name to accommodate every detail.
Test repeated letters and awkward pairs in the application that will produce the artwork. Check whether the selected font edition and application actually expose any required substitutions. Do not assume that manually increasing tracking reproduces a commissioned respacing and collision system.
Keep the display title separate from practical information
Use expressive letters for the short ship name and a quieter companion for times, instructions and other reading. On an original map or event notice, check the title at final size alongside borders, paper texture and icons. Rye is an independent display comparison, not the Rare adaptation of Windlass.
For a separate copyable crew caption, try the homepage decorative text for names. Its Unicode substitutions do not install Windlass, provide Rare’s commissioned font files or preserve OpenType collision handling. Use the actual publisher’s font resource when the letterforms and coverage must remain controlled.
Your questions, answered.
What font connection is documented for Sea of Thieves?
Aaron Bell’s original Saja Typeworks account says Rare licensed Windlass and commissioned character-set, spacing, substitution and letter revisions.
Is every public Windlass download the same as Rare’s updated font?
The project account describes a specific adaptation. A matching family name alone does not establish that a public package includes those commissioned changes.
