Choose lettered pennants or a decorative border
A pennant font can solve two different tasks. Jeff Levine’s Parking Lot Sale JNL places Manufacturer JNL lettering inside individual pennants, drawing on mid-century plastic sales streamers. Kimberly Geswein’s KG Flavor And Frames Four instead provides frames and borders, including pennant sequences. Decide whether your words should be part of the flags or sit above a separately typed border before obtaining a resource.
Use a blank flag deliberately rather than stretching a space
Levine identifies Regular as black letters on white pennants and Black as the reverse treatment. The backslash key supplies a blank pennant for word spacing or end caps. Try a short OPEN DAY line with a blank between words, then compare it with an ordinary space. The blank retains a visible flag where a space may leave only a gap. Keep this as a digital composition exercise; a font does not provide string holes, seam allowances or a ready-to-cut fabric pattern.
Build a continuous border without converting it into an alphabet
Geswein documents alternating key pairs such as abab, cdcd and efef for continuous borders. In that resource, test a short pair repeatedly rather than typing WELCOME and expecting readable words. Put the actual event name in a separate text object, then adjust the border’s length without distorting the letters.
