Find the font preferences for your version
Microsoft introduced the Windows 11 redesign with font options on its Settings page. Open Notepad’s settings and look for the font controls. Older versions may place Font under the Format menu.
Use the controls exposed by your installed version rather than assuming every screenshot of Notepad shows the same menu.
Separate viewing choices from saved content
When you save a plain-text document, the file contains characters rather than a full page layout with a chosen typeface. Opening it in a different editor can therefore produce a different appearance.
If the result must preserve a designed page, choose an appropriate document or export format rather than expecting a text file to carry all formatting.
Compare practical text samples
Try a short paragraph, a path and a set of similar characters such as I, l, 1, O and 0. A fixed-width family can be useful for aligned text, but a typewriter-like appearance alone does not establish equal advances.
Change the application’s reading size to suit your display rather than adding spaces or line breaks merely to compensate for a small view.
Explore family background
The monospaced font collection and Consolas guide provide useful comparisons. They do not assert a single default for every Notepad release.
Your questions, answered.
Does a plain .txt file preserve my selected font?
It does not carry a complete font-and-layout style in the way a formatted document does.
Why does my font menu differ from an older tutorial?
Notepad’s interface has changed across Windows and app versions. Use the settings available in your installed release.
