Keep Klim’s documented use attached to its project
Klim’s own Kinfolk Magazine entry credits Alex Hunting Studio and identifies Domaine Text and Feijoa. It is a foundry’s record of those families in an editorial project, not evidence that every later Kinfolk issue uses the same pairing. Preserve the artifact and production context when comparing it with a newer magazine page or a separately designed book.
Read the 2021 custom-family construction
In Alex Hunting Studio’s original Kinfolk case, the studio dates a new redesign to summer 2021 and credits Schick Toikka for the custom type. Its six-style system combines Serif and Sans counterparts with matching italics and coordinated vertical dimensions. The Serif separates Text and Display roles, with higher contrast and lighter weight for the larger setting and capital ligatures in the Display version. Those are intentional role-specific designs rather than one font enlarged or reduced for every job.
Compare a cover line, paragraph and caption in one editorial proof
For an original magazine spread, prepare a large title, a real paragraph, an italic phrase and a small caption. Keep the content fixed while comparing where a serif or sans changes the page rhythm. Inspect the caption at its final size rather than judging it from an enlarged headline. Source Serif 4 and Source Sans 3 are independent comparisons, not the Kinfolk custom set or renamed Klim fonts. The homepage portable text-style options substitutes Unicode characters rather than installing an editorial family or activating its capital ligatures.
Your questions, answered.
Does a Domaine Text and Feijoa use record describe every later Kinfolk issue?
No. The studio separately documents a custom-family redesign in 2021. Date the particular reference before choosing its typography.
Why distinguish Text and Display within the custom Serif?
The studio documents different intended sizes and construction. A large heading specimen alone cannot establish the small-text behavior of another resource.
