Choose a resource path
For a local family, install the supported font through your operating system and make it available to Illustrator. For Adobe Fonts, the font browser’s Discover More area can add available families to your account.
The app distinguishes local file resources from Adobe Fonts additions. A preview in a browser elsewhere does not install either resource.
Apply the family to editable text
Select the intended text and choose the family and style in Illustrator’s font controls. The Your Fonts and Discover More views help distinguish available resources from those still being added.
Choose the actual weight or italic rather than assuming every family has a complete matching set.
Resolve missing fonts deliberately
Illustrator can identify missing families and offer Adobe Fonts additions when available. If you replace a resource, compare the complete word, line breaks, accents and alternate glyphs.
Outlined letters are vector shapes rather than ordinary editable type. Keep a text version before creating outlines so later wording changes do not require rebuilding the lettering.
Read the design before adding effects
Compare logo-font ideas and font-file formats for separate design and resource questions. A useful source record names the family, edition, styles and official provider.
Your questions, answered.
Does copying text from a font-preview website install that font?
No. You need the actual available font resource in Illustrator.
Can I change the font of outlined letters as ordinary text?
Outlined letters are vector shapes. Keep an editable text copy if you will need font or wording changes.
