Hanna: background and attribution

Hanna is a name used for different type projects. Wilton Foundry credits its informal Roman design to Robbie de Villiers and connects it with the foundry’s earlier Plato and Cilantro families. Separately, Woowa Brothers’ Baemin Hanna 11 years old is a Korean signage-inspired project, with an upgrade documented in 2015. They should be identified by creator and full name.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Wilton’s Hanna is described as an informal Roman family. Baemin Hanna takes its jagged construction from cut-paper lettering on acrylic signs associated with the 1960s and 1970s. The Baemin source notes spacing changes in its later edition. Compare the writing system and actual specimen before assuming that a shared name means interchangeable glyphs.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Start by identifying the source of the document you need to edit. For Latin handwritten comparisons, try the independently named families below; they are not Korean-script substitutes for Baemin Hanna. When you need the Baemin project, use its own character set and source documentation.

For independent comparisons, try Patrick Hand and Kalam. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
