Gagalin: background and attribution

Iordanis Passas published the Gagalin project on Behance in November 2014. The creator describes it as a free comic font, and a later 2016 project note credits Vasil Stanev of Fontfabric for the addition of Cyrillic. This distinguishes the original project from the documented script expansion.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Inspect the original specimen for the comic-lettering treatment and the characters needed in your language. The project’s free offer is not by itself a statement that the files are public domain. Keep the supplied terms with the resource and do not assume every third-party download has the same contents.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a short comic caption, a poster headline and a product label. Judge the text as a whole rather than selecting isolated decorative letters. Use a separate reading face for long explanations and compare any required Cyrillic characters in the original resource.

For independent comparisons, try Chewy and Knewave. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
