FontBase: Add Fonts, Organize Folders and Manage Collections

Explore the sources, compare the examples and choose the right approach.

FontBase is a font-management application rather than a typeface family. Its official tutorials distinguish copied font resources from watched folders that remain connected to their original location.

01

Add files or folders

FontBase documents dragging font files or whole folders from the file manager into its window. The files are copied into the selected sidebar folder, or into Root if no folder is selected. The +Add menu also offers Font and Folder choices.

02

Choose watched folders deliberately

The +Add > Watched workflow creates a link to an existing folder instead of a complete copy. FontBase explains that changes to that source folder, including added or removed fonts and renamed folders, are reflected in the watched view. Keep that connection in mind before reorganizing files outside the app.

03

Organize around real projects

Use a small collection for an active project rather than keeping every decorative choice in one working group. Keep family names, styles and source notes recognizable. The same font may have a role in several designs without requiring differently renamed copies of its file.

04

Separate management from permission

A font manager helps organize and use resources; it does not grant a new license for each resource it displays. FontBase lists core collections and activation features separately from its Awesome subscription features. Match the feature you need to the current product documentation rather than assuming every displayed feature belongs to the free tier.
