Trace the original condensed-font brief
In Eric Olson’s firsthand Eye interview, the designer describes FutureBrand’s 2006 approach to Process Type Foundry for a condensed Klavika for Chevrolet. The project needed forceful, wordy headlines in limited space as well as technical fine print. His account also explains that Klavika’s apparently geometric character relied on carefully opened forms rather than rigid geometry. This is a specific commission history, not an identification of every later Chevrolet font or the bowtie artwork.
Compare a wordy headline with its smallest supporting line
For an original vehicle-event or product brochure, prepare the longest headline, one model description and a technical-data block. Compare a designed condensed face with a wider one before reducing the text size. Keep the same words while judging counters and line breaks: a shorter sample can hide the problem the real heading creates. Roboto Condensed and Archivo Black are independent specimens here, not Chevrolet’s commissioned fonts. The Klavika guide provides separate family history and original publisher resources.
Preserve dates and family information in a reference sheet
Label a reference by model, year, country and application, then distinguish advertising text from badge lettering and instrument readouts. Keep the publisher’s current family resource separate from a historic client cut; the Process Type Klavika page provides original specimens, not proof that a retail file contains all client modifications. For a plain-text car-club caption, the bold caption-text generator substitutes Unicode characters; it does not reproduce custom font outlines, a car badge or a vector brand mark.
Your questions, answered.
Did Chevrolet commission Klavika Condensed?
Olson’s firsthand interview documents FutureBrand’s 2006 commission for Chevrolet advertising and technical copy. Keep the attribution tied to that historical project.
Does this identify every Chevrolet model badge font?
No. Model badges, advertising text and later interface typography are separate identification tasks. Record the actual year and application before extending a typeface claim.
