Cabrito: background and attribution
Jeremy Dooley designed Cabrito for Insigne Design. Its publisher connects the project to research on children’s typographic legibility. This describes the designer’s stated aim; it does not establish that the font improves learning or reading performance for every child.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Cabrito is the serif family, while Cabrito Sans is a related design without those serifs. Compare exact family names before choosing a resource. The full family listing also distinguishes condensed and extended choices, so a matching weight label alone is not enough to identify a font file.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Prepare a short reading passage containing repeated letters, punctuation and numbers. Judge spacing and size using the intended page and audience. Compare a title and body setting separately, avoiding the assumption that one decorative or friendly-looking choice suits every reading task.
For independent comparisons, try Arvo and Rokkitt. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.

The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
