Start with the text and the input method
The Pali Text Society’s font resource directs readers to guidance for fonts with diacritics and to a Vipassana Research Institute keyboard resource. The latter distinguishes Unicode Roman-script Pāli characters from the keyboard settings that enter them. For a Roman-script Pāli project, keep an approved spelling reference and proof the actual accented letters your text requires. Selecting a decorative font does not supply the missing characters or translate an English sentence. For a different script, begin a new coverage check rather than assuming the same Latin resource applies.
Select the actual family and version before proofing diacritics
SIL’s Gentium download guidance documents the change from Gentium Plus to Gentium in version 7 and supplies Gentium Book as a separate package. It also identifies earlier limited-character Basic resources as older variants. Record the complete family and version in your working document. Build a short proof containing the real diacritics, italics and line spacing needed for the page, then inspect the exported result and editable text separately. Do not use a family name or an old download’s smaller file size as proof of complete character coverage.
Treat the Dharma wheel as a symbol, not a replacement alphabet
The Unicode Miscellaneous Symbols chart identifies U+2638 as WHEEL OF DHARMA and distinguishes it from U+2388 HELM SYMBOL. It also explains that reference-glyph shapes are not prescriptive. Preserve the intended character when copying ☸, and compare its rendering in the receiving application instead of selecting a merely similar wheel drawing. Keep the title or caption as readable text beside any decorative symbol. The homepage Unicode text-style generator offers character substitutions; it is not a Pāli keyboard, a translator or a guarantee of the glyphs in your installed font.
Your questions, answered.
Does a symbol font translate a Buddhist text?
No. A symbol drawing, a keyboard input method and a language translation are different resources. Preserve the approved wording and use the correct writing system.
Why might the Dharma wheel look different in another app?
The same character can be drawn differently by different fonts. Check both the character identity and its final appearance in the receiving application.
