Two foundries document different Blob constructions
Superfried’s publisher account identifies Mark Richardson’s Blob as a 2011 design remastered in 2025. Its Round and Square styles explore simple geometry through removing counters. Separately, Basement Foundry credits Kalil Fiat’s July 2022 Blob to construction from basic spherical shapes. Basement’s specimen includes uppercase, lowercase and a first stylistic set for H, M, N, O, Q and R. These are independent families sharing a name; do not assume their styles or alternate characters are interchangeable.
For Superfried, test recognition before adding an explanation
Build an original short exhibition title using words the intended audience will recognize without a caption. Compare Round and Square at the same allotted width, keeping the actual wording unchanged. Ask a colleague to read the title before telling them what it says; write down a mistaken letter or word rather than accepting a general impression of boldness. If the title needs an explanatory subtitle to be decoded, reserve the experimental lettering for a secondary graphic element. Keep wayfinding and booking information in a separate straightforward text treatment.
For Basement, make the alternate choice visible in context
If evaluating Basement’s family, choose a real heading containing one or more letters named in its stylistic set. Save a default proof and a second proof with the available set enabled in an application that exposes it. Compare the word silhouette and adjacent spacing, rather than selecting an alternate from an isolated alphabet. Leave the surrounding copy unchanged so that the design decision remains visible. Confirm the actual accented names and prices in your project against the publisher’s character specimen before promising that a layout supports them.
Keep namesake comparisons distinct from on-site specimens
Use Fredoka and Lilita One for independent rounded-display comparisons. They are separate families and do not preview either original Blob product. Arrange the title beside one genuine supporting sentence and a small call to action to judge whether a playful heading leaves the page navigable. Save the selected foundry, family and style in the handoff notes. A generic label such as blob lettering is insufficient when another designer must obtain or reopen the exact typeface.
Your questions, answered.
Are Superfried Blob and Basement Blob the same font?
No. Their original publisher accounts identify different creators and different constructions. Select by foundry as well as family name.
Do the comparison specimens show the original Blob font?
No. Fredoka and Lilita One are independent comparisons; use the linked publisher specimens to inspect each original Blob family.
