Bison: background and attribution

Bison is an uppercase sans-serif family from Ellen Luff Type Foundry, whose account relates the design to the strength of its namesake. Its construction balances firm straight elements with smooth curves. That metaphor explains the intended character without establishing an older historical origin.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The source includes solid and outline resources, with italic companions in the collection. Outline is a treatment rather than a lighter version of a solid weight. Compare the open interiors and edge thickness at the final output size, especially against textured backgrounds.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Prepare a poster title in a solid style and an outline variation using the same wording. Compare their visual hierarchy without adding more effects. Check the smallest version that will be used, since an outline that looks strong at poster scale may weaken in a thumbnail.

For independent comparisons, try Anton and Bebas Neue. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
