THE TYPE NOTEBOOK

Tattoo Font Preview

Compare real typefaces, then choose the details that fit your words.

Tattoo lettering starts with words, scale and placement, not only a font name. This tool previews real typefaces as references for a lettering discussion; it cannot predict how a design will look on skin or age over time. Use the editable specimens to compare your own text, then follow the family links for background, styles and official downloads.

01

What this style means

Tattoo lettering starts with words, scale and placement, not only a font name. This tool previews real typefaces as references for a lettering discussion; it cannot predict how a design will look on skin or age over time.

The collection is a starting point for comparing letterforms. It does not promise that a font used for one project, brand or period is identical to any of these families.

02

Compare the families and their references

Great Vibes supplies a connected script direction, Pirata One a blackletter-inspired display direction and Special Elite a typewriter-like texture. Compare the actual words rather than assuming a broad tattoo label identifies one correct alphabet.

Explore the full profiles for Great Vibes, Pirata One, Special Elite. Each includes its own project description and source license, so you can judge the actual design rather than the category name alone.

03

Try it in a real layout

Type the exact spelling and punctuation, then export a visual reference for your artist. Review connections, spacing and final-size detail together. The screen preview is a starting point for custom drawing, not a ready-made stencil or a guarantee about tattoo results.

Use the same wording and approximate size in each specimen. The size and tracking controls help you inspect the design; the PNG is a visual reference rather than a complete page layout.

04

Downloads, copying and next steps

Open a family’s official font page from its specimen when you want the font files. The selected source distributions include open licenses; review the license included with the specific files you obtain, especially if you plan to modify or redistribute them.

Copying ordinary letters does not carry these typefaces to a different app. Use a font-aware design tool or export an image when the appearance matters. For the character-substitution alternative, read Unicode text versus real fonts.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Is the PNG a finished tattoo stencil?

No. It is a font preview for discussing lettering. Have the artist adapt the drawing, spacing and final design to the specific project.

Are these live previews free to use?

Yes. You can edit and compare the specimens here without payment. Use each official source link to download the font and read the included license.

Why do copied words look different in another app?

The previews use actual fonts loaded on this page. Ordinary clipboard text carries the characters, not a requirement for another app to render the same font.
