Zodiak: background and attribution
Zodiak was developed by a team including Jérémie Hornus, Gaetan Baehr, Jean-Baptiste Morizot, Alisa Nowak and Theo Guillard. Its sturdy serif structure relates to contemporary newspaper and nineteenth-century text traditions.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The bracketed, substantial serifs and tall lowercase forms differ from a purely geometric slab. The source describes separate display possibilities in extreme weights alongside reading-oriented roles.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a full text paragraph and a heavier title separately. Compare italic shapes and numeral details in the source edition instead of treating the whole weight range as one texture.
For independent comparisons, try Petrona and Besley. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
