Yu Gothic: background and attribution
JIYUKOBO designed Yu Gothic. Microsoft records its introduction to the Windows font collection with Windows 8.1, initially in Light, Regular and Bold. Windows 10 later added Medium and the Yu Gothic UI branch, so an application’s displayed family name can refer to a different resource within the wider collection.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The documentation lists Japanese script resources alongside Latin, Greek and Cyrillic support. Yu Gothic UI has its own style labels, including Semilight and Semibold. Identify the precise branch and available fonts on the target system rather than assuming that every computer has an identical family configuration.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a Japanese document heading with a paragraph and a compact interface label. Use the actual kana, kanji and punctuation required for the project, inspecting the layout at its intended size. The editable Inter and Open Sans examples here are independent Latin comparisons, not replacements for Yu Gothic’s Japanese characters.
For independent comparisons, try Inter and Open Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.

The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
