Xirod: background and attribution
Raymond Larabie released Xirod in February 2004, developing a square techno design in response to a client request. His creator history explains that its name is intended to sound like zero. In April 2024 he placed it in the public domain.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The author listing identifies CC0 for the supplied archive and describes contextual changes and stylistic alternates. Inspect those settings in a compatible application. An alternate glyph can change how a word looks while the underlying copied characters remain the same.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Set a short science-fiction title with repeated letters and compare default shaping with the available alternates. Review the complete word and its spacing at thumbnail size. Keep the chosen resource and feature settings with the layout so the appearance can be reproduced.
For independent comparisons, try Orbitron and Michroma. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.

The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
