Wild Spirit: background and attribution

Sam Parrett designed Wild Spirit for Set Sail Studios as a hand-drawn brush design with long, flowing strokes. His 2017 creator project presents its natural movement as a central feature. The family is a repeatable digital interpretation of handwriting, with extra character choices to vary the look of short compositions.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The publisher lists two sets of characters, double-letter ligatures and a separate swash resource with decorative strokes and arrows. Compare repeated letters with and without alternate choices. A swash resource is a companion element rather than an additional text weight, so identify it separately when preparing the font files for a project.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a short handwritten quotation with a plain attribution line. Use alternates where repeated letters otherwise look too uniform, and add a flourish only where there is room around the word. Inspect the strokes at the final image size, especially over a photograph with changing contrast.

For independent comparisons, try Allison and Caveat Brush. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
