Use the documented emphasis markers
WhatsApp documents a single asterisk on each side for bold, an underscore on each side for italic and a tilde on each side for strikethrough. For example, type *Meeting* for a bold word or _tomorrow_ for italic emphasis. Keep the markers adjacent to the intended text.
Choose monospace for a distinct passage
For monospaced text, WhatsApp documents three backticks before and after the passage. This is an app formatting choice rather than a request to load a particular desktop font. Use it for a short identifier or example when that change helps distinguish it from the surrounding message.
Preserve ordinary searchable wording
Keep essential names, dates and instructions in ordinary characters. Built-in formatting can emphasize a word while leaving the wording recognizable. A decorative Unicode generator changes characters; that is a different workflow from applying an app’s emphasis controls.
Build a clear message hierarchy
Use a brief opening, a small amount of emphasis and short supporting paragraphs. When every sentence is bold, emphasis no longer identifies the key action. Read Unicode text versus fonts for the difference between message formatting and copied lookalike alphabets.
Your questions, answered.
Do I need a font app for bold WhatsApp messages?
No. WhatsApp documents built-in formatting markers for bold and other styles.
Does monospace select a downloaded font?
The documented marker requests WhatsApp’s monospace formatting; it does not install or select an arbitrary desktop font.
