Wells Fargo Font: The Documented Custom-Type Brand Refresh

Explore the designer’s documented Wells Fargo custom-type refresh, separate wordmark and text roles, and compare independent editorial layout proofs.

Identify the project behind a Wells Fargo typography reference before looking for a font file. The original designer documents a custom typeface alongside the wordmark, which calls for a different answer from a guessed stock-font match.

An original designer account establishes the custom-type scope

Ben Buysse’s Wells Fargo portfolio identifies a 2018 Siegel+Gale brand-refresh project and his senior-designer role. It states that a custom typeface was developed alongside the updated wordmark, aiming for a lighter, more optimistic typographic expression. The account also distinguishes the stagecoach symbol from the typography. It does not name a retail font package, establish download availability or identify every later application screen. Keep this documented commission separate from visual guesses about older materials or current campaigns.

02

Separate the identity asset from the reading system

For a design analysis, collect a complete reference and label the wordmark, heading, paragraph and data line separately. Record its date if known. Compare repeated letters inside each role before deciding that every line uses the same resource. If a reference comes from a campaign, keep the campaign identifier with it; a temporary headline treatment should not silently become a claim about the entire institution. This role-based sheet gives another editor enough context to understand an attribution without relying on a cropped logo.

03

Make an original information-layout proof

Use fictional, neutral wording to compose a heading, explanatory paragraph and clearly labeled summary line. Compare Lora and Inter as independent serif and sans directions, retaining the same text width and information order. They are not the commissioned family or official document templates. Our homepage Unicode text experiments can style copied captions, but do not install the custom type or reconstruct a bank’s approved artwork. Keep original identity references separate from your editable practice design.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Does the original designer name a retail font for the refresh?

The account describes a custom typeface developed with the wordmark. It does not provide a retail family identification.

Does the 2018 project identify every current Wells Fargo screen font?

No. Its documented commission has a specific project scope. A different application or later campaign needs its own direct evidence.
