Venus Rising: background and attribution
Raymond Larabie first released Venus Rising in December 1997 as a wide, square techno display design. His account records later character-set expansion and a broader family in 2017. The original single style and later commercial additions belong to different stages of the family’s development.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The current collection lists seven weights with italics, creating fourteen display resources. Broad proportions and squared curves contribute its technical character. Compare the selected edition’s actual case and script coverage, since a family that began as an all-capital design can change substantially through later expansion.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a short exhibition title or a panoramic-screen heading. Leave enough horizontal space for the broad forms and inspect the same words at the actual output size. Use a quieter reading face for dense specifications, and compare the lighter weights carefully if fine strokes will sit on a detailed background.
For independent comparisons, try Michroma and Orbitron. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
