Vacation Font: Monotype Symbols or a Serif Alphabet?

Compare Vacation font resources: Monotype’s travel pictograms and Alifgraphic’s serif alphabet. Identify the maker, inspect the glyph map and choose a text role.

Check whether your Vacation resource contains pictograms or an ordinary alphabet before planning a layout. Two documented designs with the same name serve different tasks: a map key needs identifiable symbols, while a heading needs readable letterforms.

01

For travel symbols, identify Vacation MT and its actual mapping

Microsoft’s Vacation MT record credits Steve Matteson and describes stylized silhouettes for travel brochures and campsite maps. It identifies Vacation.ttf and a symbol character set. Monotype’s current Vacation catalog lists Vacation Pi. Consult the actual glyph map for the edition you have; typing a letter in a symbol font may display a picture rather than that letter. These resources should not be presented as a normal body-text alphabet.

02

For a serif heading, identify the separate Alifgraphic resource

Font Kingdom’s original author note for Vacation identifies its serif resource and links to Alifgraphic’s full commercial package. The demo is described as personal-use only. That is a different design from Monotype’s travel-symbol collection. Keep the credited maker and exact source URL in the project notes, especially if both resources appear in a search or download folder under the same short name.

03

Make a map key that still works without decorative characters

For an original workshop-location sheet, choose just the symbols that explain real destinations and place a plain-language label beside each. Print the key at the intended small size and check whether the icons remain distinct. Keep the address, directions and opening time in ordinary readable text, and preserve those words as a separate reference when exporting the graphic. For a serif heading, proof the complete title independently instead of expecting the pictogram font to supply it. The homepage copyable Unicode lettering serves text-field decoration; it does not install either Vacation resource or preserve a symbol font’s mapping across applications.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Is Vacation always an ordinary text font?

No. The Monotype resources cited here concern pictograms, while the separate Alifgraphic resource is a serif alphabet. Identify the maker and character map.

Can I assume a Vacation demo includes commercial permissions?

No. The Alifgraphic author note distinguishes its personal-use demo from the commercial resource. Use the actual package terms.
