01

Teodor: background and attribution

Martin Vácha designed Teodor for Displaay, with spacing and kerning credited to Igino Marini. The publisher dates the original release to November 2019 and records a later update in March 2026. Its classicist serif direction combines vertical stress, pronounced contrast and a calligraphic approach to terminals.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The current family lists eight weights with upright and italic resources, plus variable axes for weight and slant. The specimen documents alternative a, g and r forms, several numeral treatments and ligatures. Those features need to be selected and inspected in the actual edition rather than inferred from the default alphabet.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Compare a short editorial title and a reading passage at their intended sizes. Test alternatives only where they improve the actual words, and inspect fine strokes against the chosen background. Compare figure styles using dates and prices before committing to a layout that mixes display and practical information.

For independent comparisons, try Playfair Display and Prata. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
