The creator documents more than a generic collegiate look
In the original author note, justme54s describes an athletic slab serif for apparel and jersey numbering. Uppercase S and lowercase s select different drawings, and the left and right curly brackets provide alternate forms of 2 and 5. Those are particular character mappings. The author permits personal or noncommercial use without a donation and requests a donation or license arrangement for commercial work; the note also directs online font hosting to the creator’s existing distribution sites.
Make a controlled surname-and-number proof
Set the complete surname and its actual number in the original font. Compare the S variants with the same surrounding letters, then compare any required 2 or 5 alternates. Keep the real roster data in a separate plain-text record: using a brace key to select a number drawing does not change the meaning of that stored character. Record the mapping used in the artwork so the next editor does not replace it with a literal brace or misread the intended number.
Keep documented usage separate from universal sports rules
The TNPL 2024 handbook records a custom Superstar M54 cut for player names alongside a different resource for numbers. That is one dated competition example, not permission for every team or proof that a downloaded file matches its customized cut. Graduate and Archivo Black are independent comparisons. For broader kit planning, see the volleyball typography guide. Our copy-and-paste font generator styles Unicode text; it does not preserve these custom glyph mappings or make a jersey production file.
For a different garment task, the letterman jacket guide separates letter appearance, patch dimensions and chenille preparation.
Your questions, answered.
Where are the alternate 2 and 5 drawings?
The creator maps them to the left and right curly-bracket keys. Keep the actual intended number documented separately when composing the artwork.
Is Superstar M54 free for all commercial projects?
The author’s note distinguishes personal or noncommercial use from commercial use requiring a donation or licensing arrangement. Consult that original note for the actual project.
