Shin Go: background and attribution
Morisawa presents Shin Go as a modern Japanese Gothic family with a systematic, unembellished character. The creator’s account emphasizes a consistent visual density in horizontal and vertical typesetting. Its intended roles range from signage to smaller printed communication, with different weights serving different levels of emphasis.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The source lists eight weight labels from ExtraLight through Ultra. Inspect Japanese characters and punctuation in the original specimen rather than judging the design solely from Latin letters. Related UD or language-specific resources should be identified separately; a similar family name does not guarantee the same drawing or character set.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a Japanese heading, a short paragraph and a small directional label at their final sizes. Judge the balance between kana, kanji and punctuation in the actual text. The editable Inter and Open Sans examples here are Latin comparisons only; they do not reproduce Shin Go’s Japanese glyphs or provide substitutes for a Japanese composition.
For independent comparisons, try Inter and Open Sans. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
