Shatter: background and attribution
Vic Carless designed Shatter by transforming a basic sans serif structure into the appearance of broken glass. The ITC account identifies that construction as the concept behind the design. It is a deliberately drawn display alphabet rather than a random effect applied differently on every use.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The catalog lists one Standard resource. Inspect the fragmentation in the original specimen at the intended size. A generic broken-glass image filter can produce a different result because it does not preserve the font’s specific pattern of letter shapes.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a short title on a plain background before adding further distressed imagery. Check that the main word remains recognizable at thumbnail size. Keep dates and other practical information in a clearer companion so the visual effect does not overwhelm the message.
For independent comparisons, try Special Elite and Fredericka the Great. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.

Your questions, answered.
Who created Shatter?
ITC credits Vic Carless and describes a basic sans serif structure transformed to suggest broken glass.
Is Shatter the same as applying a texture to normal text?
No. The named font contains a particular drawn treatment. An image filter will not necessarily reproduce its letterforms.
Can I try the original Shatter here?
Use the linked publisher specimen for the original. The editable fonts on this page are independent comparisons.
