01

Serpentine: background and attribution

Dick Jensen designed Serpentine for Visual Graphics Corporation in 1972. Its broad, box-like display structure is distinguished by small triangular swellings at stroke endings, which the publisher describes as semi-serifs.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Compare those endings and subtle curves in both lighter and heavier styles. The semi-serif detail does not make the design interchangeable with a conventional text serif. Select the actual upright or oblique resource and inspect figures along with letters.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a fictional team name, a number and a short technology label. Keep timing and practical text clear at small size. Russo One and Quantico provide independent angular display comparisons, with different proportions and stroke details.

For independent comparisons, try Russo One and Quantico. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
