Roxborough CF: background and attribution

Connary Fagen’s Roxborough CF draws on calligraphy and hand lettering. The creator describes an open, expressive serif design built around a single-storey lowercase a, with companion italics contributing a different rhythm. This guide concerns that named family rather than every serif that shares an editorial or fashion-oriented mood.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The current family lists eight weights with italics, alongside Latin, Cyrillic and Vietnamese resources. Compare the selected style’s actual characters and accent placement in the original specimen. The a and the italic forms are useful comparison points, but replacing another font also requires attention to spacing and line length.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a short packaging title and a supporting description, then compare the upright and italic versions of the same phrase. Leave enough space for the italic movement and inspect fine details at the finished label size. For longer copy, compare the paragraph separately from the large display heading.

For independent comparisons, try Lora and Prata. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
