Replica: background and attribution
NORM's Dimitri Bruni and Manuel Krebs designed Replica, released by Lineto in 2008. The foundry's specimen explains a deliberately reduced drawing grid: seventy units in place of the usual seven hundred for standard capital height. That self-imposed limitation gives the letters their distinctive construction rather than simply adding a generic digital texture.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Beveled corners expose the underlying grid, while vertically cut diagonal endings allow tight setting in letters such as A, K and R. Replica Mono is a separately released monospaced resource. Do not assume that the ordinary family's spacing or style selection matches the Mono branch.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare a short tightly set title with a paragraph at a realistic size. Inspect cut corners and diagonals as actual shapes before changing tracking. If alignment is important for code or tables, assess the Mono resource specifically instead of assuming a technical-looking sans serif is fixed-width.
For independent comparisons, try Inter and Michroma. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
Official preview and font resources
Use Lineto / NORM to try the original and investigate the files, styles and terms for your intended workflow. This site does not distribute or serve Replica font software.
The editable alternatives here have their own source profiles and included licenses. For the difference between a font file and copied characters, read Unicode text versus fonts.
Your questions, answered.
Who designed Replica?
Lineto credits NORM's Dimitri Bruni and Manuel Krebs and dates the release to 2008.
Why are Replica's corners beveled?
The foundry's design discussion connects those cuts to making its deliberately coarse drawing grid visible.
Is every Replica resource monospaced?
No. Replica Mono is a separately identified resource. Inspect that branch when equal character spacing is required.
