Recoleta: background and attribution

Jorge Cisterna designed Recoleta for Latinotype in 2018. Its reference points include Cooper’s softness and Windsor’s angled movement, interpreted through the display lettering associated with the 1970s. Latinotype later developed Ltt Recoleta with additional widths; distinguish that expansion from the original release.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

Further source context: Latinotype — development of Ltt Recoleta.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Look at the rounded serif shapes, broad curves and alternates in the publisher’s specimen. Original Recoleta and the expanded Ltt release are related editions with different inventories. Select the actual family and width before comparing a bold sample; a filename containing “Recoleta” alone does not establish which edition you have.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

For a package label, give the product name room and keep ingredients in a quieter text face. Test a curved word, a price and a short paragraph separately. In our editorial comparison, Calistoga offers an independently designed expressive serif, while Cooper-like softness can be explored with Corben; neither is Recoleta.

For independent comparisons, try Calistoga and Corben. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
