Rama Gothic: background and attribution
Ryoichi Tsunekawa designed Rama Gothic with references to nineteenth-century wood type. The publisher describes an antiqued sans-serif system intended for emphatic display settings. Its historical influence belongs to the design’s visual vocabulary, while the digital family is a later interpretation offered by Dharma Type.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
The condensed family contains 18 styles and an alternate lowercase r available through the stylistic-alternates feature. A separate Gothic Extras resource supplies ornaments and frames. Keep those decorative extras distinct from the core alphabet when choosing files and comparing character coverage.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Try a short market-poster heading and a smaller date line. Compare widths and weights using the same words, keeping the headline large enough for its internal spaces to remain clear. If adding a frame or ornament, leave sufficient breathing room so the decoration does not crowd the condensed lettering.
For independent comparisons, try Bebas Neue and Antonio. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
