01

Quiche: background and attribution

Adam Ladd designed Quiche as a coordinated collection drawing on the contrast of Didone typography while removing the serifs. Its ball terminals and angled stems contribute a distinctive display character. The creator presents it as a family system rather than a single decorative headline resource.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Quiche’s 52 styles are grouped into Display, Fine, Stencil and Text branches. The first three provide more dramatic treatments, while Text is intended for supporting settings such as quotations and subheads. A branch name describes a drawing choice, so compare the chosen resource rather than assuming that reducing Display creates the Text version.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Build a magazine opening with a large title, a quotation and a short supporting line. Compare Display and Text at the sizes where each will actually be used. Inspect fine details and stencil gaps at the final output size, then simplify the hierarchy if several dramatic treatments compete for attention.

For independent comparisons, try Italiana and Belleza. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
