Pretendard: background and attribution
Pretendard’s project documentation describes a cross-platform neo-grotesque built on Inter, Source Han Sans and M PLUS 1p. The project is associated with Hyung-jin Kil and credits the underlying design contributors through its distribution. Its scope includes multilingual alignment rather than simply reskinning a Latin interface.
Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.
Forms, styles and what to inspect
Nine weights and variable resources are documented. JP, Std and GOV branches serve different environments; Std is intended for Latin, Greek and Cyrillic-only use. The Latin comparison fonts on this page do not reproduce Pretendard’s full Korean or Japanese resources.
Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.
Try it in a real layout
Compare mixed-script headings and interface labels in the original family before judging only an English sample. Select the appropriate branch, check the actual names and punctuation, and inspect line wrapping in the final application.
For independent comparisons, try Inter and Source Sans 3. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
