Start with the language rather than a decorative label
Polish font can mean a family that supports Polish writing, not one particular visual style. Poland’s Institute for the Development of the Polish Language identifies nine letters formed with diacritical marks: ą, ć, ę, ł, ń, ó, ś, ź and ż. Its own identity uses diacritics as a visual reference to the language. For an ordinary document, those letters belong in the wording itself rather than being added as optional ornament.
Compare the distinguishing marks in context
Prepare a line containing the required letters in both cases and a paragraph from the actual project. Compare ź with ż, and l with ł, rather than judging an English-only specimen. Look at the space above capitals and below the baseline when setting a heading with tight line spacing. A font that looks attractive in a short unaccented name still needs to handle the complete text.
Keep spelling intact through the production workflow
Retain the correct characters when moving text between a design file, website and exported document. If a mark disappears, determine whether the character changed or the chosen font failed to display it before rewriting the word. Keep a plain-text reference of the approved wording so that typography changes do not silently become editorial changes. Ask a proficient reader to review the language of a finished publication.
Compare an entire hierarchy with independent specimens
Use the independent Inter, Source Sans 3 and Lora specimens as starting points for comparing your own text, with a title, paragraph and caption in each. These are separate named families rather than a single official Polish typeface. Evaluate the exact edition and rendering environment before production. Continue with the Unicode text guide for character handling and the reading-font guide for longer passages.
Your questions, answered.
Is there one official font for Polish text?
The language does not identify one visual family. Choose a font that displays the actual letters and fits the document’s reading task.
Should I remove accents to match a decorative font?
Preserve the approved Polish spelling. Choose another font or resolve the rendering problem rather than changing the letters for appearance.
