01

Use the original PKMN resource for the game-text question

The creator’s PKMN page describes a reconstruction of text from Red, Green, Blue and Pikachu, with some Gold, Silver and Crystal characters. It links its own GitHub releases and MIT license. It also marks some additional characters as newly drawn for convenience. This is an independent reconstruction, not a claim to be an official Pokémon logo font or an unchanged extraction of every game alphabet. Start from the maker’s resource and inspect the character inventory for your actual language before choosing a version.

02

Choose Regular or Strict by the line-box task

The creator distinguishes PKMN Regular, with a 16-dot line height accommodating Japanese voicing marks, from Strict, with an 8-dot line height whose marks can extend above the line. The page recommends Regular for writing and Strict for recreating a game screen. For your own pixel dialogue panel, set two lines containing kana with voicing marks, then compare the top edge, the space between lines and any clipping. Do not fix a clipped mark by deleting it. Choose the appropriate metrics or adjust the enclosing text box, then check the same panel again at its intended exported size.

03

Keep Western glyph choice separate from pixel scaling

PKMN Western supplies Western-style alphanumerics while retaining Strict-style kana behavior. Test a name, a number and a two-line message together instead of comparing only an isolated capital. Make an unscaled proof first; after resizing, inspect the exported pixels for uneven edges and blurred strokes. Press Start 2P and IBM Plex Mono below are independent comparison fonts, not previews of PKMN or Pokémon’s logo. The copyable Unicode text generator changes characters in ordinary text; it does not install PKMN, preserve pixel-grid rendering or convert text into a game resource.

GOOD QUESTIONS

Your questions, answered.

Is PKMN the official Pokémon logo font?

No. The cited maker describes an independent reconstruction of early Game Boy text. Logo lettering and later games require separate identification.

Why can Japanese voicing marks clip in PKMN Strict?

Compare the family’s documented line metrics and test the actual application and text box. Increasing the enclosing space can be necessary; deleting a meaningful mark changes the text.
