Podium Sharp: background and attribution

Mateusz Machalski developed Podium Sharp from his earlier DUDU typeface, designed in 2012. His account relates the expansion to modular and geometric wood-type designs found in older Polish specimens, including Rex, Blok and Bacarat. The resulting family explores a large range of widths and weights within one coordinated display system.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

The catalog describes 234 styles spanning very compressed light forms through broad heavy treatments. Its two-part numerical naming uses the first number for width and the second for weight. Record both parts when selecting a style: a number is a resource identifier, not a font size or a generic instruction to stretch lettering.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Use the same short poster title to compare several widths at a fixed size. Choose a purpose-drawn compressed style for a narrow column and compare a wider one in a horizontal banner. Inspect the inner spaces at the final output size, then record the complete style name for later editing.

For independent comparisons, try Anton and Michroma. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
