01

Pluto: background and attribution

Pluto is Hannes von Döhren’s family, dated 2011 by HvD Fonts. In the creator’s account it began as an experiment combining geometric sans serif construction with playful script-like stroke endings. Italics were developed after the upright family in response to requests for a broader typographic system.

Read the publisher’s family page for the source account and the edition currently offered. Keep a family name distinct from its particular release, width or optical branch.

02

Forms, styles and what to inspect

Compare the expressive endings with the overall upright structure. The publisher also demonstrates tabular figures, fractions and subscript or superscript forms. These are functional choices within the family, not copied Unicode characters that carry the typeface into another application.

Use the original publisher specimen to inspect those features. An alternative can share a broad role without having the same letter shapes, metrics or character coverage.

03

Try it in a real layout

Try a friendly retail heading beside a product description and a small price table. Compare the regular and italic treatments without changing the wording. Use aligned figures when the layout requires columns and judge the small text independently from the charm of the heading.

For independent comparisons, try Nunito Sans and Fredoka. Use the same wording and approximate output size. The related style guide provides broader design context.
