Choose a consistent grid vocabulary
FontStruct’s pixel-font guide recommends using its default square for drawing. Begin with a small original set such as digits and the letters in a short label. Decide which repeated stroke widths and gaps will make those characters belong to one system.
Use Pixel Preview for square bricks
The official guide describes View > Pixel Preview, which shows each brick as one black pixel. It explains that the preview is accurate for square pixels because non-square bricks still appear as black pixels in that view. Keep the preview’s purpose distinct from the scalable outline shown in the editor.
Download a font rather than a screenshot
FontStruct documents the editor’s Download button for TrueType output. Its export help separately describes a Glyphs format for further editing. A PNG of the grid remains artwork; it is not interchangeable with the TTF you install in another application.
Keep a small design coherent
Compare repeated letters, adjacent strokes and punctuation in complete words. Save the editable project with a note of its intended scale and source. For the broader drawing-and-spacing process, read the font-editor guide; for using an exported resource, read font file types.
Your questions, answered.
Does FontStruct only produce bitmap screenshots?
No. Its help describes scalable outlines and downloadable TrueType fonts.
Is Pixel Preview accurate for every brick shape?
The official pixel-font guide says that preview is accurate for square pixels and represents every brick as one black pixel.
